In Savanna Solitude, the landscape itself takes centre stage. Deep earthy reds and burgundies stretch towards distant forms beneath an expansive golden sky, creating a sense of heat, distance and openness.
The work grew from imagining the vastness of African landscapes described to me and recognising something familiar within them: the ochres, reds and sun-bleached golds that also belong to the Australian landscape. Loose, expressive marks allow the terrain to remain partly undefined, leaving space for the viewer’s own sense of place.
