A solitary tree stands quietly against an intensely crimson sky, momentarily aligned with the sinking sun. Crimson Calm explores the tension I find fascinating in dramatic landscapes: colour can be extraordinarily powerful and energetic, while the experience of being within it can feel completely still.
Here, the smallness of the tree against the expanse of red heightens that sense of quiet presence. The painting is an invitation to stop within the intensity and simply absorb the colour, light and atmosphere.
